My Classroom

Why I love this layout:

1.    It creates an environment for small groups.  Most of the students have small group instruction in their IEP’s, so this helps set up that environment for success.
2.    The room is structured to provide interactions among individuals engaging in multiple activities.
3.    The learning centers are provided to help students who need or could benefit from extra resources. The extra table and centers can be used or group work or individual work. For example: The math table is glass so the students can write directly on it and solve problems together. Behind the math table is a shelf that has math books, manipulatives, calculators, rulers, and measuring tapes.
4.    The classroom is free of obstacles and provides decent traffic flow. This will provide a safe environment for the students.
5.    The teachers’ desk is in the back of the room and out of the way to provide a welcoming environment.
6.    The students have direct access to the smart board. They are able to participate effectively in the classroom and advance their learning.
7.    The Nook is created to have a relaxing environment for reading and to make it enjoyable for the students to engage in.
8.    The home living space is provided so the students can work on their life skills.  The skills students need to work on include but are not limited to washing hands, folding clothes, cooking or preparing meals, making the bed, brushing teeth,  and putting dishes away.
9.    The writing center and art center is set up for students to work on writing goals, creating projects, and working on academic vocabulary.
10.    There is a wall of fame for students to display their work and make the room feel like home.

Classroom Culture

We will work hard to have a positive classroom culture, and to celebrate that culture in many ways (positive phone calls, increased privileges, etc.). In instances where that culture is disrupted, consequences will include teacher detentions, parent/guardian contacts and administrative referrals.
