The Brook Café is not a before-school job. It is an in-school opportunity that a growing number of school districts are embracing as an alternative way to engage students and help them connect with their futures. Students in the special education classroom are not only working on academics but life skills to prepare them for real life situations such as; counting money, following directions, sequencing, and communicating. It is a focus to prepare our students to be functioning citizens in our community. Engaging in activities that are true to real life situations can only better support the students’ transitions from high school to adulthood. Delivering the coffee will give our students the chance to be part of the school and get to know all the staff around the building. It will give them a project that will help them feel successful.

This project not only supports students educationally through teaching them academic skills but it will also teach them life skills that they can take with them forever.
